Eastern Slope Regional Broadband
The Town of Stow's Select Board has officially joined an alliance of eight towns to facilitate the installation of a broadband internet system. This initiative aims to enhance internet access for its residents, a critical step for economic infrastructure in the 21st century. Stow has proactively secured funding for this endeavor, including a $4,000 grant from Connect Maine for initial planning, and a $48,000 grant from the U.S. Government, a portion of which will serve as matching funds for the coalition's planning grant.
The Eastern Slope Regional Broadband (ESRB) is a dedicated coalition of towns in Western Maine, encompassing the communities within MSAD#72 (Brownfield, Denmark, Fryeburg, Lovell, Stoneham, Stow, and Sweden) along with Chatham, New Hampshire. Their mission is clear: to bring robust, high-speed fiber optic internet directly to every home and business in the region. The ESRB understands that reliable and affordable internet is no longer a luxury but a fundamental necessity for education, economic growth, healthcare, and community connection, and they are committed to closing the digital divide in their rural communities.
As a volunteer-driven initiative, the ESRB works tirelessly to secure the best possible broadband solutions for their residents. They actively pursue partnerships with internet service providers, explore funding opportunities, and advocate for their communities' needs at both state and federal levels. By uniting their efforts across these towns, the ESRB aims to ensure that everyone, from lifelong residents to seasonal visitors, has access to the fast, reliable, and equitable internet service they deserve, paving the way for a more connected and prosperous future for the Eastern Slope.
